Pianolatron - a virtual player piano

A very promising project to be released soon, is the 'Pianolatron'. The Stanford University has developed a web-based virtual pianola player, offering a great database with roll scans, but also the ability to play own files using virtual levers for accentuation, pedal and speed. This amazing project opens the door for everyone to play around with piano rolls, without the necessity of having a pianola or rolls. During the 3rd GPRM the Stanford colleagues announced, that the ‘Pianolatron’ release is planned for late 2024. The given preview during the conference was extremely promising. Experts are invited to ask for a test account. The Pianolatron is described as: ‘Pianolatron simulates a player piano. It plays piano rolls collected in the Stanford University piano roll archive, and you can control it in real time with a game controller or computer keyboard to give your own expressive performance.‘ Up to now many roll types can be played, like Welte red, Welte green, Welte Licensee, Duo-Art, 65-note and 88-note - many more to come.
